(U)EFI boot option management. This feature allows you to easily manage (U)EFI boot options, such as create, delete, edit, clean up, backup and restore boot options, or change boot sequence, all these operations done under Windows without entering BIOS setup. VirtualBox, for instance, supports EFI, so it's possible to install Linux under EFI on VirtualBox and use it for testing EFI applications compiled in the host environment. This procedure at least obviates the need to re-start your editor or IDE after every test of your program. The UEFI shell binary is compiled to run independent of the firmware. This can be tested by putting the shell on a FAT32 file system (USB stick, hard drive partition), renamed as /efi/boot/bootx64.efi and then booting to it, from your UEFI BIOS. Help text for the shell is accessed by typing help utilname.
